Alaska is one of the last places people think of when the word «death metal» is mentioned. However, a relatively new band, Veiled Morbidity, has managed to change course. This demo is only three songs long and eight minutes long, and it promises a lot of things to come.
The first track is a much more straightforward brutal death metal, but the other two are the highlights. Moribund Ragdoll opens with angular riffs, blast snare beats with grindcore pings, and slight dissonant death metal influences in the form of clamp harmonics. The song structures are somewhat intermittent, especially in «Rapid Melting of Internal Organs.» On a few occasions, the guitarist suddenly stops to allow the drums or bass to momentarily take over, which is a very nice touch. It’s a more interesting take on the brutal death metal I love to see, especially in the current state of death metal.
