SUNNIVA – Hypostasis / VINYL LP

Sunniva’s debut album is ready and loaded with six tracks that bring you massive heavinessand aggression while alsodelivering moving and sentimental passages in a compactsoundscape. The phrase “RAW SONIC POWER fuelled by life’s low frequencies» works well todescribe the overall feeling. The album’s concept goes into themes of isolation, the everchurning machine oftechnology and its impact on us, the general atmosphere and feeling ofregression in people’s empathy, the climate changing and its impact on a spiritual level within usas humans and the self realization that the thing holding us back from really doing somethingabout any of this is our own ego. We wanted to create an album which showcases our diversemelding of different feelings and soundscapes into songs and making the whole album feelalmost cinematic with twists and turns along the way. One of our friends summed up the songsquite well: “It feels the same as when you watch a good HBO series, packed with drama and itkeeps you guessing as to where the story takes you next.”The album title Hypostasistranslates toan underlying reality or substance, as opposed to attributes or to that which lackssubstance.Also in literature it means when a character in fiction becomes aware that they are ina fictional world. It also means in medical terms the second stage of death when blood settles inthe lower limbs. The fact that the title can be interpreted in many ways works well in describingthe album as a whole, keeping the work open to interpretation.The album was recorded in V.R. Studios in our hometown of Turku in Finland by Engineer JoriSaloranta, Mixed by Mikael Neves in Waiting Room Studios Tampere and Mastered by thelegend Brad Boatright in Audiosiege Mastering Studios, Portland Oregon. All songs areproduced by Sunniva themselves and the album art is done by our vocalist/guitarist OliverWebb
