“The Forces of Darkness” is a concise and powerful death metal album, with shades of black and some grindcore touches, such as in the song “The Elementar”, which has very clear influences from Napalm Death, especially because of the voice, very similar in its register to that of Mark Barney.
We could classify them within the current crop of bands that claim to practice “Blackened Death Metal”. Belphegor or Akercocke are bands that I find quite similar musically speaking. The black metal aspects are found above all in some guitar riffs, fast and sharp, very much of the old Nordic school. Also in many parts of the drums, with blast beats from beyond the grave. The voice can sometimes remind us of Glen Benton (DEICIDE), Chris Barnes (CANNIBAL CORPSE, SIX FEET UNDER) or even Adam Darski (BEHEMOTH). It’s a super solid debut with a pretty professional production (although I missed a bit more punch in the rhythmic base) and an artwork that fits it like a glove, dark, decadent and aggressive.
