«Vile Crematory» has seven tracks, just over thirty-five minutes of the best death metal you’ll ever hear. There’s a hint of inspiration here and then a whiff of another inspiration there, but in the end they sound like themselves and not a simple carbon copy, a rehash of other bands. Crushing, pounding riffs transform into controlled, furious, and sinister chaos, straight into dark dungeons and Doom, and then straight into catchy (in Death Metal terms) almost galloping guitars. And the solos, not forgetting the solos, those delights that soar and wail in an equally beautiful, masterful, and always in keeping with the song as a whole—delicious. Then you have a drummer who truly understands the value of his position in the world of Death Metal, with the control to not be a simple crushing double bass. He has the perfect fill here or the perfect cymbal crash there just when it’s really needed. Plus, you get truly audible, punchy, and powerful bass. With a perfect understanding of when to be at the forefront with the guitars, filling out that sound, and when to stand out proudly, adding perfect counterpoints. And finally, the vocals, those perfect low growls that are intelligible and gut-wrenching at the same time. The perfect mix.
Ultimately, what we get is a super-powerful album that’s a step ahead of their previous EP, which is enormous. «Haunted Mausoleum» is an incredible EP. In short, «Vile Crematory» is absolutely incredible. And that’s not just my biased opinion. No, because Grotesqueries are the real deal and have delivered a monstrous album that we’ll surely be talking about for years. Again, for the third time, this is «some of the best Death Metal you’ll hear all year,» if not more.
