Although it may not be recognized as it deserves (and like other metal genres produced in the country), the Italian extreme metal scene always brings the world some surprises, ever since the days when BULLDOZER began making ears bleed in the mid-80s. And the trio FULCI, from Caserta, Campania, is coming to brutalize fans’ ears with the reissue of “Opening the Hell Gates.”
For those who are that extreme, “Opening the Hell Gates” will have a very good appeal, as can be heard in the nasty and brutal impact of “Premature Sepoltura,” the massive weight of “Among the Walking Dead” (good work on the rhythms and guitars), the harsh screams of “Feeding the Undead” and “Gore Life” (but some less extreme guttural growls would be better), and the brutal grip of the guitars in “Opening the Hell Gates,” which are the best. But his personal version for “Death by Metal” (it seems like a review of the same song by DEATH, but in a very different way) cannot be left aside.
