Between recording “The Process of Opting Out” and “Fistula” the US sludge demons released an interesting compilation that was named “Frustrations In The Key Of Rust”. This is something similar to “Garage Inc.” (someone had to say that ;)), but much heavier and dirty. You will hear the covers on Misfits, Devo, Nirvana, The Exploited, Black Flag, Kilslug, Cro-Mags, D.R.I., … and many, many more. Altogether we have almost 5o minutes of butchering buzzing noises! To be honest, I`m not a big fan of such releases, but this one turns out great and I’m happy that Behind the Mountain rec released it!
Even though all the songs are covers, this is the same old Fistula that we all love. Super heavy sound, and dystopian atmosphere, the base is here. I freaking love how these songs sound with the sludge approach, that low guitar is making these music shots better. The contrast between the songs is also crazy, for example, punky and fun Skulls (by Misfits) and then punchy Destroy The Handicapped (Fang) that difference blew my mind, haha! The groove in GG Allin’s track simply kills, and I’m not joking… All instruments are in their place, and working like fucking Swiss clocks, ha! Ah yes, this story ends with an unexpected “Nirvana” cover, Fistula managed to turn that song into a freaking hard psychedelic trip, unbearably cool and scary shit, haha! Good job guys!
Yes, this is not a studio album, but this is a nice, fun compilation that makes you look at the old songs from another angle. Try it and you won’t be disappointed!
